A Customs Broker is an individual or company licensed by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to assist importers in preparing Customs entry, paying Customs duty, and obtaining the release of imported merchandise from CBP.

How to become a Customs Broker
- Over 21 years old
- U.S. citizen
- Non Federal employee
- Good moral character, no criminal and bankruptcy record
- Pass Customs Broker License Exam (75%)
Customs Broker License Exam Contents
Every year, CBP holds two Broker License Exams, one in April and one in October. The exam covers CFR Title 19 Customs Duties, the United States Harmonized Tariff Schedule, and some CBP directives.
How to prepare for the Exam
To be prepared for the Customs Broker License Exam, you must be familiar with the structure and organization of Title 19 and HTSUS, understand basic theory and concepts, summarize the specifics of important terms and sections, and quickly and accurately find the terms among the Parts and Chapters.
